Body Language

Body Language is a free, monthly dance party, the second Saturday of every month. Resident DJ Lower Frequency and midislut, along with special guest 1 Auxy, spin a mix of cutting-edge techno, electro, house, and more. Hosted by BBX.

Mike Poe began forming his musical interests at an early age. He was fascinated by the use of electronic instruments in modern music and began listening to progressive rock groups such as Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Rick Wakeman in the 70’s. It was his mother who introduced him to the experimental electronic tones of Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. His appreciation for these creative styles lead to the creation of midislut.

A product of the 90’s Midwest rave scene 1 Auxy’s love affair with everything techno began while still attending high school in his hometown of Akron. Raving on the weekends exposed him to the many sounds of the era but what made the biggest impact were the dj’s and records coming out of other near by Midwestern cities like Detroit, Columbus, Cleveland and Chicago.

In ’95 1 Auxy began digging for the sounds he was hearing on the weekends at local record store Riff-Raff and Dan Curtin’s Deep Records. Buying his first decks soon after, he quickly became obsessed with the art of mixing records and spent countless hours practicing until he was good enough to be offered his first club and rave gigs in ’96.

2016 finds 1 Auxy still digging for the perfect record, still dj’ing and loving it now more then ever. This summer he launched his series of rooftop parties in Akron called ‘Seasonal’ – hosting some of his favorite Midwest selectors and live acts under his ‘banish/invoke’ flag. 2017 will see banish/invoke launch a label releasing trippy esoteric techno records by some of his favorite stateside techno and house producers as well as his own output.

Body Language

Body Language, our free, monthly dance party, the second Saturday of every month turns 2 years old this month! Resident DJ Lower Frequency, birthday boy Aaron Beckett, and special guest Josh Mace, spin a mix of cutting-edge techno, electro, house, and more.

Low sub-bass, UK influenced breaks, and stomping house beats provoke involuntary bodily movements when artist Josh Mace puts down a track. Within close proximity to Chicago, Detroit, and New York, native of Akron, OH DJ/Producer Josh Mace has grown up in the middle of an electronic music mecca. Exposed at an early age to electronic sounds in a middle school music-tech class, Mace was then introduced to a world of sound possibilities. Soon after, Mace found himself exploring and interweaving connection within electronic music, particularly favoring the expression that house and techno provided for him with a strong influence coming from bass music in Bristol.

Breaking out as an independent artist in 2012 is where it started for Mace. His single ‘Call Me’ was featured on Parisian label B.YRSLF Division. Josh continued his journey self-releasing singles & mixtapes while gaining support from local heavy hitters Brent Still Life & Thunder St. Clair. Acquiring residencies at infamous Cleveland parties Based & Submerged provided an outlet to share bills with global and national talent including acts like Distal, Clicks & Whistles, Jason Burns, Jim-E Stack, Vin Sol, Benito, Jaw Jam, A-Sides, Coyote Clean Up, Freeze-Tag, Prism, Golf Clap, and many more. After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, Josh Mace became a regular fixture at the renowned club Monarch with the Soundpieces weekly event.

Inspired by his stay in California, Josh returned to Ohio and landed notable releases and press in 2014 with ‘Without A Gimmick’ on Washington, DC label Car Crash Set, and ‘Time in Yuba’ in 2015 on the Barcelona based Tracy Recordings label. Josh has set his place in the electronic music community having appeared on various established labels in the US and Europe. While continuing to further his passion with music Josh and his friend Jeff Everett launched Sequel Sound recordings, providing a platform for artists in the Midwest and Bay Area to build their catalogues and careers. Josh Mace’s excess of inspirations fuel his endless creative endeavors which are sure to be anticipated and enjoyed for years to come.

Body Language

Body Language is a free, monthly dance party, the second Saturday of every month hosted by B.B.X. Special guest DJ, Subtractive joins Coma Coz and Lower Frequency to bring you the best in underground house, techno, electro, and more. Reinforced sound provided by Bus8 Audio. No Cover.

With a drummer for a father, and a sister who was into illegal street racing, Alex Hunt’s (aka Subtractive) childhood was anything but normal. By age 13, Alex was already hooked by the euphoric, confidence-inducing sounds of electronic dance music; “I used to beg my sister to let me ride along on races … Sometimes she would give in. The days following, I would be asking her what the music was that her friends were listening to in the car.”

After his initial exposure, it didn’t take long for Hunt to dedicate himself to learning the art of music creation. Without means to to travel to the more vibrant music scenes of Detroit or Chicago, the young producer spent his nights practicing skills such as mixing, sampling, and synthesis. As years went on, Alex began making the trek from Indiana to Detroit nearly every weekend. With a head full of production knowledge and an eagerness to experience Detroit’s underground party scene, the cards were right for Alex Hunt to undergo a musical transformation; this is when he became Subtractive.

An artist whose eyes and ears are consistently set on the future, Subtractive strives to create music that is totally non-traditional. His compositions explore the limits of electronic sound, while maintaining a rhythm which is irresistible to dancers. Dream-like synth melodies and pristinely processed vocals float over the top of floor shaking bass, creating a groove which consists of equal parts dance party and introspective voyage. A true master of manipulating energy, Subtractive’s productions take his listeners on a journey that has captivated many across the globe.

Restart

Restart comes to XO Nightclub in August for the best night of funky disco and soulful house music with residents Ororo and Dingo8, plus special guest Kevin Bumpers.

Raised in Cleveland Ohio, Kevin’s music style was heavily influenced by his parents who would play Disco, Funk, Soul and R&B from the 70’s and 80’s during their family gatherings. He was 21 when he went to his first underground party and watched as the DJ worked the crowd into a frenzy with House Music. Being a DJ has become his passion ever since.

His sound continues to evolve with various house styles from vocal & soulful, jackin & funky, bumpy UKG 4×4, to deep & discofied. In 2012 he founded the monthly house night known as GrooveHaus Cleveland and hosts a weekly radio show called Groovehaus Sessions every Thursday night at 9 pm EST (2 am BST) on D3EP Radio Network. Once a month on Saturday night the house music faithful gather to hear international and local DJ’s dropping the best in funky and soulful house vibes.

Kevin has shared the decks with well know artists Dj Dan, DJ Spen, Todd Edwards, Kevin Saunderson, Tony Humphries, Todd Terry, Jask, Stacy Kidd, Scott Diaz, Czboogie, Trevor Lamont, and Chicago’s very own Dajae! His energy and style are infectious and when Kevin is doing his thing, the floor will be jumpin’! To Kevin, House Music is more than just a feeling—it’s a way of life!

Kevin will be joined by Restart residents, Ororo and Dingo8. No cover.

Body Language

Body Language is a free, monthly dance party, the second Saturday of every month hosted by B.B.X. Resident DJs, Lower Frequency, Coma Coz, and foi oi oi along with special guest, Alina D. spin a mix of cutting-edge techno, electro, house, and more. Reinforced sound provided by Bus8 Audio.

Alina Davidovich was born in Riga, Latvia. As a young teenager, she listened to EDM on the local radio and soon after, she found herself meditating to it in her room for hours at a time. After moving to the states at the age of 15, her love for electronic music brought her into the rave scene. She was fascinated by how DJs are able to connect tracks into a seamless mix and chop up beats. One day she met an older gentleman through some friends of hers and to her delight, he offered to teach her how to beat match on a pair of belt drive turntables. She believe this was the greatest gift anyone has ever given her.

DJ’ing to her is a communication tool which allows her to express herself emotionally and connect to the crowd in the most primal way. Ambiance, depth and increasing energy are key components to each one of my sets. Major influences are Rrose, Orphx, Cleric and many others.

Over the years, she had the opportunity to play at local clubs, raves and large, festivals. She’ll also be featured as a part of the Fashion Meets Music Festival coming up this September.
