Detroit Techno returns to Columbus

An up and comer from the birthplace of techno, Patrick Werden, better known as Dink, focuses on a soulful blend of techno with groovy house rhythms to create a mood that is distinctly Detroit. He made waves at this year’s Movement festival, and if his Turnstyle EP out on Brian Kage’s Beretta Grey label is any indicator, he’ll keep making them for some time.

Providing support for our guest from the north are Squared’s Lower Frequency and Coma Coz. Body Language resident Lower Frequency will deliver his own brand of Detroit techno – a mixture of diverse beats that never fails to impress. Coma Coz will cover the other end of the spectrum with his reliably upbeat, driving house jams.

Body Language is a monthly dance party thrown by the longest-running purveyors of electronic events in Columbus, Squared Entertainment. Occurring the second Saturday of each month at Victory’s Live at 543 S. High Street in the Brewery District, Body Language features the most future forward electronic music in the city and is always 100% free.

Squared Provides Soundtracks to Popular Franklinton Festivals Again in 2015

This past month, Squared once again brought the underground sounds of Detroit, Berlin and beyond to the masses at the two best summer festivals in Columbus – Urban Scrawl and Independents’ Day. Over four days covering two weekends, Squared talent such as Lower Frequency, Coma Coz, Lights Out, and Jason Allen shared the stage with other local favorites like DJ Trueskillz, Druid Cloak, Kevin Brugger, Ororo, and Jenny Arcade.

Squared is a longtime contributor to Franklinton’s Urban Scrawl, having provided the soundtrack for 5 of the festival’s 9 incarnations. Working closely with the Franklinton Arts District and other participating organizations, Squared curates the local talent behind the decks, on the dancefloor and on the mic, extending beyond its own roster, to ensure a unique experience that captures the diversity of sound heard throughout the city.

Amidst a backdrop of fresh paint brushed on murals evolving before attendees’ eyes, youngsters danced among b-boys and old funk samples intermixed with disco, soul, house, techno and more. Not even periodic rains could stop the flow of people, as the weekend-long event drew even larger crowds than ever before.

Taking place in Franklinton itself for the second year in a row, former downtown resident Independents’ Day continued to settle into its new home over the last weekend of summer. The new location is a welcome change that led to a much less congested experience for those looking to enjoy all that the underground Columbus music scene has to offer. Like previous years, Squared managed the electronic presence at ID15, bringing in sound, talent and production. Echoing throughout food truck alley, house, techno, and drum & bass drew in those looking to dance and those looking to eat.

Over the course of the weekend, early sets from Ororo b2b Dingo8 and Beckett got people in the groove, while the ragga jungle and Drum & Bass of Mister Shifter had the entire crowd skanking before sundown. Even Druid Cloak’s deeper, darker, experimental sounds kept heads bobbing. It was another successful year for Independents’ Day and Squared, as techno thumped late into the night throughout Franklinton. With two more successful festivals etched into its long history, Squared looks forward to showcasing the best in Columbus electronic music to even more new fans next year.

Columbus, OH (February 05, 2015) – Squared, Columbus’s premiere electronic music event production company, announced its 2015 entertainment roster today. Founded in 2002, Squared strives to foster an ever-evolving bevy of talent that represents all spectrums of electronic music. It didn’t take long before Squared founder Scott Litch took notice of the chemistry the two share when performing together.

They are joined on the updated roster by Akron newcomer Coma Coz, who finds himself in Columbus for much the same reason. “We are very excited to have these talented people involved with our organization,” said Scott Litch, Founder and President of Squared Entertainment. “2015 is going to be a great year for everyone that likes to go out and dance, and all of us at Squared look forward to seeing more new faces at our events.

Local favorites like Lower FrequencyBeckett and Lights Out will continue to call Squared home and can be seen on a rotating basis every month at Body Language, or representing Squared at other events around the city.
